Work, work, work (Summer Experience)

The first company that I worked for named HLB Hellas. HLB Hellas is the Greek member of HLB international, a worldwide network of independent professional accounting firms and business advisers represented in over 100 countries. In Greece HLB is a new organization. They asked me to design an advert for a magazine named ‘Accounting’ in order to help them promote their services. The second person that I contacted with just opened a new gym (personal studio). The name of the gym is ‘Harry’s Gym’ and he asked me to design a logo (finally not selected). These two works were freelance. Finally, the magazine where I sit beside a designer for a two-week time period and observed what he was doing named ‘BHmagazino’ and it is one of the most well known weekly magazines in Athens. This magazine goes along with the newspaper ‘TO BHMA’ every Sunday.

Some of the 100 Final Outcomes

Above are some of the outcomes i have created.

16page Catalogue - Final Outcome

This is the final outcome of my 16 page catalogue -part of the Major Project-. I like the fact that each of the double-spreads are different to each other. Each page is different because each final piece is different too. The only common element is the page number and the fonts used for the titles and text.

Final Summary Post

This year is coming to its end and I would like to make a post describing my
feelings about my first year at London College of Communication and more
specifically about my course, FdA Design For Graphic Communication. During the
first days of the university I faced some problems for two reasons. Firstly, the most
of my classmates are older than me, and some of them have previous experience
on Graphic Design, either as students on another course or as freelance graphic
designers. The second problem was about my English Language, as it is the first
year for me living in UK. Although, I faced these problems very quickly -2-3 weeks-.

About my progress and development on my studies I am really happy. I started with
a really bad grade on the first project - Graphic Design Fundamentals- (D) because
I did not know exactly how it works in general. Further more, I had some difficulties
on how to manage my time till the deadline and finally I wasn't very good on Adobe
Indesign. The previous years (IB program) I used programs like Illustrator and
Photoshop.

From the Term 2 till the period now I feel really developed. Firstly, it is very
important the time management I do for each project and the term overall. I have a
schedule and I try to be as consistent as possible. Secondly, I learned a lot of new
things on InDesign as I worked on it on a daily basis. The final and very important
fact that helped me was that I looked and researched on many different projects of
both my classmates and professional Graphic Designers. The development of my
work was obvious for both me and my tutors as my grades increased (B, C). Even
on my blog you can see the difference. It started as a page which was updated
every two weeks. Now the links are more to the point ant the comments about my
work are more professional even if the use of English language is not very good.

On the second year of the FdA I need to work harder in order to make my grades
even better and pass for the top up of the BA. The FdA is a very competitive area,
as the area of Graphic Design Industry in general. My goals for the year coming is to work
very hard and take very good grades. Also I want to start working more on the
facilities of the university like Screenprinting, Letterpress, 3D workshop,
Bookbinding etc. I started using some of these techniques on the third year, for my
Major Project.

Moreover, I want to start doing more creative things on my free time like exhibition
visits. I think that this would be very helpful for both my studies and my future in
general.

Hope you all enjoyed my blog!!!

Screenprint Day!

Today, It was my first attempt on screenprint. I really enjoyed the process and I am quite happy with the outcomes. I decided use the screenprint studios for an opportunity to learn the technique and produce some final outcomes for the 100 finals (Major project). More specifically, the outcomes I produced depicts the Greek Parliament in many different colours.

Bookbinding Workshop

During this workshop we learnt how to bind books in several different ways. Then we created some prototypes for each different way. The first way we learnt was the French Fold Books, but in two different ways (See pictures above). The second way of binding we did was stitching. The last way and probably the one I' ll use for the 16page catalogue (part of Major Project) is exactly as the previous one but this time using a stapler.
