Screenprint Day!

Today, It was my first attempt on screenprint. I really enjoyed the process and I am quite happy with the outcomes. I decided use the screenprint studios for an opportunity to learn the technique and produce some final outcomes for the 100 finals (Major project). More specifically, the outcomes I produced depicts the Greek Parliament in many different colours.

Bookbinding Workshop

During this workshop we learnt how to bind books in several different ways. Then we created some prototypes for each different way. The first way we learnt was the French Fold Books, but in two different ways (See pictures above). The second way of binding we did was stitching. The last way and probably the one I' ll use for the 16page catalogue (part of Major Project) is exactly as the previous one but this time using a stapler.

Contrasts & Locations Workshop

During this workshop we designed quick logos for a series of different themes of London.

-A non-visual London
-A non-aural London
-A non-verbal London
-London as TIME
-London as SOUND
-London as WORDS
-London as SPACE
-London as SMELL

Above is some designs that I did after the workshop using Adobe Illustrator.

Colour in the City Workshop

During this workshop we worked in groups of 2-3. Each group chose and research one word in combination with the word Colour. The word that we dealt with was Opacity / Transparency. So, we started working separately and looking for designers that have graphic works using opacity and transparency. We found a very interesting graphic designer named Wim Crouwel. Above is an example of his work.

Then, as we asked to present our research and ideas to the other students and the tutor, I decided to design my own design combining the Red colour using opacity.

Invisible City Workshop

During this workshop we read an article of a city and then we designed a typeface that reflects an aspect of the city. The city I designed for was Moriana. So I tried to represent some important aspect of this city on a typeface. I am happy with the result as it was my first try. I think that I will develop it further because I find it very interesting for a starting point.

16page Catalogue Design

This is the first double-spread page designed for the 16-page catalogue which is a part of the Final Major project. I really like the balance on these two pages. I also think that the typography and colours used  successfully.

City Rhythms Workshop

London is a 24-hour city but the cycle of day/night, work/play, noise/quiet, etc create differing moods depending on where and who you are. During this workshop the first we did was to listen a variety of different sounds of London (www.soundsurvey.org.uk/). Then, we selected the most interesting ones and we represented the visually using the given grid/shape sheets. Actually, we had to take away or add components in order to express the rhythm of the recordings that we listened.
